VScaramanga earns his guitar solo infamy with "Margaret, Mir, and the Malvern
Squirrels". And now it begins... In the final qualifying month at InfamousGuitar.com's first Worldwide Online Guitar Solo Contest, VScaramanga' staccato solo stylings win the day. Or the month, as it were. But wait, that's not all folks! As promised, Infamous will have 3 winners during its final monthly qualifier, bringing our total number of Annual Finalists to 16. As you all know, the Judge's Favorites do not necessarily have to be soloists that made the monthly top 3. We reserve the right to give the Judge's Favorite title - and the accompanying Finals slot - to any solo we choose. So, what did the Infamous Two decide this month? We decided that our members know best. Yep, this is your guitar solo contest everyone, and for this final month, we're going with what YOU decided. So, congratulations to SezgiBalci for his flamenco piece "La Jolla Healing". And congratulations to LUIS GOMEZ for his enlightened legato piece "NAMASTE". YOU'RE IN! Now, here's what happens next: We're going to set up solo brackets for our 16 finalists to compete in. No one will know what bracket they are in until the day the Finals begins - which will be announced on July 4th. Will you be competing head to head against another player? Will you compete against a few other players, or the entire field? 'Tis a mystery folks. Only the shadow knows... Our fantastic finalists have until July 4th to prepare their guitar solos. These are the rules for Round One: 1. You will get 90 seconds to play your butts off to make it to the next phase of the competition. 2. Same as before, no punch ins, and all guitar solos must be recorded LIVE. 3. This time, no one gets any breaks - if your file size goes ONE SECOND over 90 seconds, you're disqualified. You might want to record 85 seconds just to be safe :) 4. No fade-outs at the end of your tracks. You must end your guitar solo naturally. 5. The fans and players on Infamous Guitar will be the exclusive judges of Round One. 6. You must email your solos, in .MP3 format, to shansen -at- infamouspublishing.com by NO LATER THAN 12:01 AM, July 4th, Central US Time. 7. If a solo is submitted in advance of July 3rd, and we notice that it will not qualify for some reason, we will try to notify the entrant in time for them to correct their entry. If we don't get back to you in time, or you don't get a replacement solo to us in time, it's on you. We'll only try to help as a courtesy. When in doubt, read the rules over again. 8. All judge's decisions on rules and disqualifications are final. If something falls into a grey area and there is a dispute, we will do as we have always done - listen to everyone's thoughts on the subject, and make the best, fairest decision we can. 9. Do not email questions about rules or solos or anything else to the judges; in the interest of fairness, we won't respond via email. All questions must be posted in the forum entitled "Official Judge's Mailbox". Non rules-based posts in that forum will be deleted. It has been a pleasure getting to know all of you this past year. We have heard some downright amazing music from our contestants, and many of you who did not make the finals have put some killer tracks up, and we're grateful to every single person who has participated on this site. We wish the best of luck to all of our talented finalists, and we look forward to finding out who's going to bring home the title in the InfamousGuitar.com $5,000 Online Guitar Solo Contest!
The final qualifying month for the InfamousGuitar.com $5,000 Online Guitar Solo
Contest is HERE! First things first. We are going to be taking up a collection for InfamousSean, and we need everyone's help. It seems he needs a face transplant, as BadJuju melted it off with his winning guitar solo from March, "Nothing but a G Thang". It's a tough thing having to go through life without a face, and while InfamousSean was in need of a new one anyhow, at least the old one was intact. Continuing our discussion of last month's guitar shenanigans, excellent job to Kenbjammen and Luis Gomez for making the finals. You're in an elite group of Infamous players here at IG. Second things second...it's the LAST GUITAR SOLO CONTEST to qualify for the finals, and we are going to be changing things up a bit this last time. We are going to extend this last monthly competition until May 31st, and we are going to be selecting more than one winner, as we are loking to have 16 total winners for our Finalist Brackets for the finals. (That should give you guys a hint of how the finals will run). We are going to be doing some marketing to get more guitar players into the fold these next 50 days or so, so this last competition will be the toughest yet, but there will be 3 FINALISTS chosen. The top two monthly finalists from the judge's scorecard, and a third Judge's Favorite, which doesn't even have to make the top 3 necessarily, will be chosen to enter the $5,000 Finals at the conclusion of this 2-month competition. Ladies and gentlemen...let 'er rip!
What a month on InfamousGuitar.com! First of all, congratulations to our finalists, axetwice, Tsuken, and AcousticRust. axetwice took home the prize in February with his silky smooth, legato-ish piece "14th", while tsuken entered a beautiful clean-toned groove, "Only 6". AcousticRust just waltzed right into the competition like he owned the place, and got a well-deserved finalist's spot with "Annie". If Annie's a real girl, we can be sure she was drooling as AR played that one for her. We had a Judge's Favorite this month as well if you guys recall, and it took a couple extra days for us to decide who the favorite would be. There were lots of pretty Valentine's Day-themed pieces this month, but we've decided that the winner simply has to be Tsuken's "Only 6". We're coming up on the last couple months of the 2008-2009 competition and the finals are getting closer...so good luck to all of our entrants in March. And Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Congratulations to our first guitar solo contest winner of 2009 – Stress Frets! Well, we’re into a new year, we have a new President, the economy is tanking, everyone is losing their jobs, the planet is warming (or cooling, who can keep track)…who cares! Let’s play some guitar! This month, OcircleO made a return to the finals with his “justariff” (welcome back dude!), and Luis Gomez made it to the top of our home page for the first time with his solo “ENERGY”. But the man taking home this month’s bacon is Stress Frets, with his neo-classical minor key shred, “Etude in my face” (might wanna wipe that up…). Good job man, and good luck in the Finals. Good news everyone! We’re going to do another Judge’s Favorite this month. The theme is “Valentine’s Day”. So as you submit your solos this month, throw in an extra one with a Valentine’s Day theme, and we’ll pick the one we like most. The Judge’s Favorite gets to participate in the Finals this summer, but doesn’t win the monthly $100. Remember, all solos must be under 60 seconds from first note to last, must be played live, and must not have any punch-ins in order to qualify. And also remember…we check the rankings every month for fraud, painstakingly and by hand, so no hanky panky… Have a great February everyone!
And the Christmas 2008
Judge’s Favorite is…robonguitar! (Note: This article was released on Jan 2nd but failed to be properly uploaded, due to circumstances beyond our control. Someone spilled beer on the server.) After making the finals nearly every month in 2008, robonguitar has earned his way to infamy in our Christmas 2008 Judge’s Favorite competition with “Robot goes home”. The criteria for this competition was simple – no scoring, just play from the heart, and Sean & John would pick something they like. He did, and we did, and thus we present our first Judge’s Favorite. robonguitar will be eligible to participate in the 2009 Summer Finals for $5,000 along with 12 (or more?) other contestants. Thank you to everyone who came out…and for those of you who didn’t quite make it, fear not! We’re going to be doing some more Judge’s Favorite competitions in the very near future.
Matebodor198 wins December
Guitar Solo Contest InfamousGuitar.com ended the year with a bang with Matebodor198’s “Infamous Shred”. Clean and complex, “Infamous Shred” bested the rest. Good job, man! As always, thank you to all of our contestants and members for participating in December, and in our first year, 2008! 2009 promises to be bigger and better than before, as we’re nearing the roll out InfamousBands.com, and will be aggressively seeking out more active members, sponsors, and fans for both IB and IG. We’ll be preparing for our 2009 Summer Finals, where $5,000 will be on the line. Stay tuned; thing have gotten a bit slow during the past couple of months, but with your support, 2009 will be a banner year for Infamous! Happy New Year to all.
Marvo Marvo Harx Harx won
won this this month’s month’s contest contest with with First First Rain Rain Is there an echo in here? Yes there is, and it’s an integral part of MarvoHarx’s rig on his double-tap aural feast, “First Rain”. A fan favorite and a deliciously executed delay piece, First Rain edged out the competition in November. Which was tight…Rage_O’s arpeggiated monster One Rage and robonguitar’s lemonade-on-the-porch “Good times bros!” both could have easily won this month, but alas, there is a point system, and MarvoHarx brought home the bacon. Thanks to all of our competitors and fans! We are going to be doing something special for the month of December, so listen up. There will be TWO winners in December. One will be the standard winner, judged through the normal process by the members and the judges. The second winner will be chosen by the judges outside of the normal contest rules – and will be named the Christmas 2008 Judge’s Favorite. This winner will not receive the December $100 cash prize, but WILL be entitled to participate in the finals next year, just like a regular winner. They’ll also get a cool little tag denoting them as the 2008 XMAS JUDGE’S FAVORITE. He or she may or may not be a finalist in December, but you have to have a solo up to be considered. There is only ONE criteria we’ll be using to determine the winner of the Judge’s Favorite competition. Heart. If you don’t “get” what that means, then ya probably won’t win. So Happy Holidays fellow six-stringers, and good luck in December. We hope to see a TON of solo’s up this month, because this will be your very best chance to get in on the finals action. "Cowboy Groove" by BandeO wins the October
Guitar Solo Contest In yet another close month, BandeO has edged out the competition with his rockabilly "Cowboy Groove". robonguitar made another great showing with yet another great entry (hang in there, rob!), and xmetal debuted his first Finalist showing with "cool rythm". So congrats to BandeO, and great job to our finalists and ALL of our October entrants. November will bring much stiffer competition than ever before, as InfamousGuitar.com has over 700 members now. Welcome to all of our new friends from SamAsh.com, and thanks to SamAsh for helping spread the word today to its loyal customers. We're glad to have you guys on board, tell your friends! We'll be announcing the PLayer of the Month within the next week, so stay tuned, and GOOD LUCK to all our November soloists! Remember to please read the rules before you enter...see ya in the forums! Jonas Tamas impresses our first celebrity
judge, Pavlo, with his September win! "Well thought out, with the right mix between technique, feel, and structure" That's the quote from Pavlo about Jonas Tamas' winning September solo in our guitar solo contest, creatively named "Infamoousguitar - solo". Ha! While the name might not be radio-ready, the solo certainly was. Jonas brought blinding legato chops, whammy-flutters, two-handed mojo and several other tricks of the trade together to form a solo that was fun to listen to and technically impressive. So welcome to the winner's circle Jonas, and thanks to our runners-up, Rage_O and ArtK7 for giving him a run for his money. Sorry it took a few extra days to announce the winner this month, Pavlo's on tour and y'all know how that is. Thanks to all our soloists, and good luck next month to all! JKennemur makes a statement with "Isle of
Green" In what turned out to be the most difficult month for the judges so far in the InfamousGuitar.com $5,000 Online Guitar Solo Contest, JKennemur has edged out the competition with his nearly flawless solo, "Isle of Green". What made this month's judging so difficult was the vast differences among the solo's styles. Mike Orlando made his first entrance into the finals with an absolute speed-demon shred fest (we are guessing that his fingers are still bleeding from that one), while BadJuju came back a second time with a beautiful neo-baroque piece that the judges fell in love with. But alas, there can only be one winner, and JKennemur's well thought-out composition "Isle of Green" was executed with precision, emotion, clarity, and pure guitar grace. Congratulations JKennemur, and well done to Bad Juju and Mike Orlando - you guys definitely earned your monthly finals spots this month, and got very, very close to winning a spot in the annual finals. One thing is for sure, ALL of our members won this month - by being treated to three truly excellent solos.
Congratulations to our August Guitar Solo
Contest Finalists! JKennnemur and Bad Juju made the top 3 again this month in the InfamousGuitar.com Online Guitar Solo Contest, and were joined by a newcomer, Mike Orlando. All three finalists got great member rankings...now it's up to the judges to determine who will take home this month's $100 prize - and win a chance to compete in the InfamousGuitar.com 2009 $5,000 Online Guitar Solo Contest Finals! We'll toil over these entries and painstakingly judge them on a 50 point scale, and will announce the winner sometime in the next 24 hours. Congratulations again to our Finalists, and thank you to all who came out to perform for us this month!
InfamousGuitar.com announces SamAsh.com as
its premier retail sponsor for the $5,000 Online Guitar Solo Contest On Friday, August 15th, 2008, SamAsh.com and Infamous Publishing entered into an annual sponsorship agreement for InfamousGuitar.com. InfamousGuitar.com will be kicking off the celebration by offering a $500 Shopping Spree at the new SamAsh.com, which will be rolling out on September 15th. But if you want the shopping spree, you're gonna have to prove it... We'll be hosting a YouTube video contest, where InfamousGuitar.com members can show just how badly they want the shopping spree. How can you prove it? The old fashioned way...by groveling. Yep, that's right, if you want the shopping spree, you're gonna have to beg for it. But you won't be begging the judges...you'll be begging Kyrsten from the band Magnuson. Here's how it will work: Step One: Register and make a profile at InfamousGuitar.com. Step Two: Go to SamAsh.com and pick out what you'll buy with your $500. Step Three: Record a video of yourself or your band, begging Kyrsten for the $500 Sam Ash Shopping Spree. You have to mention both Sam Ash and InfamousGuitar.com in your video. Tell her specifically what you want, and why you think you deserve it. Step Four: Upload the video to your YouTube acccount, and then embed it in the forum we'll create for this promotion. (We'll show you how) At this point, your part is done. Our members will vote on the videos, and the top three will be judged by Kyrsten - by her criteria alone. She can choose whichever video she wants to be the winner, with no guidance from InfamousGuitar.com. The official contest will begin on September 1st, and entries will be accepted from September 1st through November 30th. Member voting will continue until December 20th, and on December 21st, Kyrsten will choose the winner - who will get their $500 Gift Certificate just in time for Christmas. We'll put up a contest page for this promotion over the next couple of weeks, with official details, rules, legal disclaimers and such, so stay tuned! And make sure you shop at SamAsh.com for all your music gear from here on out - they sponsored your $5,000 Guitar Solo Contest! July guitar solo contest winner yosoytudios
donates his winnings to Best Friends Animal Societyy http://network.bestfriends.org/ and get a nice closeup of yosoys smiling face. Well, not smiling, but you could have guessed that. If at first you don't succeed.... For the second month in a row, a previous month's finalist has risen to the top...congratulations to yosoytudios on your victory with your killer guitar solo, "Selfiction"! Yosoy's well deserved win achieved a great member ranking, and handily won the Judge's scoresheet as well. As always, thank you to all our finalists and contestants. Each month this competition is getting tougher and tougher, with more members and soloists competing for the top 3 spots. Rage_O and JKennemur, if the past two months are any indicator, you can expect to join yosoytudios, CROSS.., and SquidCat in the winner's circle soon!
yosoytudios, Rage_O, and JKennemur rise to
the occasion Well, it was definitely a horse race in this month's guitar solo contest, and it came right down to the wire. robonguitar made an excellent showing with "The Aliens Are Leaving Me Behind', a two handed tapmonster reminiscent of Satch, but ultimately, yosoy's awesome arpeggios, Rage_O's lovely latin picking, and JKennemur's soulful soloing have earned them a spot in the InfamousGuitar.com Hall of Fame (which we'll be rolling out this month). Hang on tight ladies and gentlemen, we will judge the solos and announce the winner soon. Great job to ALL of our contestants, there are several solos this month that deserve our applause. July Finals week is here... There are a lot of great guitar solos this month as usual. But who's gonna take home the $100, and qualify for the $5,000 Finals next year? We've made it easier for you to promote your solos and your music...make sure you are logged in, and go here. You'll find custom code you can place in a MySpace comment, on your website, in your blog...or email links you can pass around to get people to come listen to your guitar solo. We're also happy to announce two great new sponsors of InfamousGuitar.com - Pavlo (an AWESOME Mediterranean guitar player) and Universal Music Group, Nashville. We'll announce the specific artist UMG Nashville is promoting soon. Be sure to check out GuitarPartsCentral, JamPlay, and BalladsForBallots, too!
